Chikungunya virus endemic in the city

A great number of people are reported to have been infected with Chikungunya virus in the city. High temperature along with joint pains are the common symptoms of the disease. Chikungunya is actually a viral disease transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. It causes fever and severe joint pain. Other symptoms include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rash.
Joint pain is often debilitating and can vary in duration. The disease has some common clinical signs of dengue and zika, and can be misdiagnosed in areas where they are common. There is no cure for the disease. Treatment is focused on relieving the symptoms. Most patients recover fully, but in some cases joint pain may persist for several months, or even years. Occasional cases of eye, neurological and heart complications have been reported, as well as gastrointestinal complaints. Often symptoms in infected individuals are mild and the infection may go unrecognized, or be misdiagnosed in areas where dengue occurs. Chikungunya has been identified in over 60 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
In Dhaka city many areas are reported to be the danger zone for chikungunya virus. People have to be very cautious and have to use mosquito deterrence to protect them from Chikungunya. If somebody is attacked by Chikugunya viral fever he/she should not get frightened and rather see expert doctors and have medicine as prescribed. Intervention by City Corporation is sought to prevent further endemic of Chikungunya viral fever.
